Do I need to wear hearing and eye protection?
Wearing hearing and eye protection are compulsory when clay pigeon shooting.

Is clay pigeon shooting difficult?
Clay pigeon shooting can be easy or difficult depending on your ability. Our instructors can change your targets accordingly.

Do East Midlands Clay Sports cater for stag/hen parties and corporate days?
Yes, we do cater for both stag and hen parties. View our prices or contact us if you have something bespoke in mind.

Do I need to bring any equipment with me?
If you are a first-time shooter, we would recommend you bring something to cover your shoulder to protect from the recoil of the shotgun. East Midlands Clay Sports will provide all eye and ear protection for you.

What Clothing is Ideal for Clay Pigeon Shooting?
We would ask that you dress for being outside in a grass field according to the time of year plus what the weather is doing that day. It is always a good idea to bring a waterproof coat and boots, just in case they are needed.

What happens if it rains when I have booked a lesson? Is my session cancelled?
No, clay pigeon shooting is an outdoor sport and unless the weather can cause danger to shooters we will always carry on.

Does clay shooting hurt?
No, shooting a shotgun does not hurt provided it is held in your shoulder correctly. Our highly experienced instructors can guide with this and ensure that you are comfortable and confident when handling the gun.

Do I need to be a member to shoot at East Midlands Clay Sports?
No, non-members are always welcome at East Midlands Clay Sports, but we can provide information on membership prices if required.

What is English Sporting?
English Sporting is a shooting discipline that evolved from its early roots as a means of guns practising for game shooting out of season. Targets are varied to simulate the different game targets seen in the wild.

The layout of English Sporting usually presents the shooter with two different targets into one of the following:

  • Quartering Targets
  • Crossers
  • Driven
  • Overhead
  • Rabbits
  • Springing Teal

Today it is the most common form of clay pigeon shooting, which provides a shooting environment with different layouts and constant challenges.

What time should I arrive for my booking?
We would ask that you arrive at least 15 minutes before your start time.

I am pregnant, can I still take part in clay pigeon shooting?
We would advise that you do not take part. Research has suggested that a baby’s hearing could be affected by the noise from clay shooting so it is best to not take risks with your unborn child.

Is clay pigeon shooting available all year round?
Yes, all of our activities at East Midlands Clay Sports are available all year round.

I have my own gun; is it okay to bring it with me?
Yes as long as you have a licence and know that your weapon is safe to use.

Will I receive instructions?
Full instructions and necessary equipment will be provided by our qualified instructors who can guide you through the whole process of clay shooting.
